UNetbootin

At home, I have a dell xps400 that was just trying to deal with windows XP. A friend of mine recommended Ubuntu. So, what do i do? I download the ISO, burn a CD with it on it, and plug it into my xps machine.

“No boot device found”

It’s going to be one of those days. The forums are of little help. One of them recommended making the CD-ROM drive of my computer as a master instead of cable-select. Same error.

So – what about a bootable USB? The first site I looked at required a previous linux machine to make a bootable USB. No good.

Then I found UNetbootin – http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/. This tool… rocks. It will handle all the stuff of creating a bootable USB drive, and will even go get the ISO for you.
